Sibelius Violin Concerto
I have an audition today, and my hands are collapsing WHAT DO I DO?
Today in about 5 hours I will be in an audition room playing two orchestra excerpts involving lots of bow control and intonation, one excerpt that is very slow and requires a very steady hand, and the first two pages of the sibelius violin concerto which takes lots of power. Yesterday night I practiced for around 7 hours for this audition out of anxiety and this morning I woke up and my hands were feeling very weak. I tried to play my violin, and although it wasn’t a disaster, i could feel a significant amount of power lost.
I am resting, drinking lots of water, and doing mental practice but I would like to be as fresh as possible despite this for my audition. it’s only 5 minutes long and i know i can get through it but I would really like as much help as possible.
Does anybody have tips for situations like these?
Personally I think your problem may b over practising, all that practise won’t have done your hands any favours, so don’t do any more practise and find some hand exercises to do. If you feel really anxious again, read over your music and imagine you are playing it. Eat a good breakfast to keep up your strength, and stay off the caffeine, trust me it’ll make things worse.
